Job Description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible to support the company growth through the development and introduction of new products to the market by developing the engineering concepts to support the new product design along with providing the project management necessary to develop the new product prototype into a viable product. This position will also provide pre- and post-sales product and applications technical support and training; internally to the Sales department; and externally to customers and sales reps. Provide technical leadership in area of expertise, with ability to train others and represent the company externally. Act in the capacity of the Company’s technical authority in area of expertise. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct feasibility studies to determine if a new product effort is technically feasible within acceptable time and financial constraints. Manage both minor and major projects within a formal Documentation and Control System through memos, charts, graphs, etc., and formal Project Management tools (i.e. MS Projects), to keep management informed of progress. Prepare a detailed project plan that schedules all project related activities for each department through project completion. Develop and review projects, analyze and interpret specifications and features required to meet technical performances specified. Create design sketches and finish drawings. Propose methods and procedures for Manufacturing and Quality Control. Devise and specify test methods. Create bills of material for product and components. Develop product assembly routings for finish product and sub-assemblies. Follow projects through development and test stages, including test programs as required, analyze test results to determine accuracy of test procedures or product design. Support the Sales department on the release of products to the field, assisting with technical literature and supporting material, and travel as necessary. As a project leader, direct, instruct, assist, and evaluate the work of others involved in the assigned project. Contact suppliers concerning questions of performance and availability of parts, evaluate quotations, capability and assist in make or buy selection. Provide technical assistance to clients (internal and external) on new or existing product applications, requests, or problems. Visit field representatives and customers to provide training, customer support, or to diagnose and correct problems and failures. Provide technical assistance to the Sales department on the technical content and its accuracy for commercial promotional material (collateral, brochures, web page content, etc.). Compile data and compose professional test reports. Prepare periodic or special reports as required by management. Proficient at MS Office programs such as Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience utilizing ERP systems. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a level of knowledge that is usually associated with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, and 3 to 5 years of new product’s project engineering and technical support experience in a related manufacturing business. Familiarity with National Electrical Code, utility power systems ANSI, and other similar standards a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Communication: Clear listening/understanding and ability to give concise well-reasoned responses Adaptability: Ability to deliver consistent results while remaining flexible between projects. Clients: Clear understanding of who are the clients: Internal, such as members of the sales, manufacturing, finance, and engineering departments. External, such as Sales reps, Distributors, Installers, Customers, etc. Customer Service: Ability to understand a client’s (internal and external) needs and expectations, apply the company resources for the fulfillment of the client’s project goals. Multitasking: Ability to shift attention from one project to another without losing focus on each project’s end goals. Time Management: Ability to efficiently structure one’s time and effort to achieve the prioritized objectives at hand. Organization: Ability to structure time and resources in a practical and purposeful manner. Collaboration: Ability to work in unison with a wide range of different personalities towards a common goal TRAINING and REQUIREMENTS: General Safety PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Regularly required to sit, stand and walk onto the manufacturing floor.
