Description:
The Applications Engineer assists Sales staff by providing technical information on the use of machine tools to produce customer parts/products, efficiently and with robust quality.
Scope and Responsibilities:
- Provide telephone/e-mail customer support on the operation and use of our machining products.
- Provide part processing/machine recommendations to best produce customer parts as the stated part volumes.
- Calculate time study estimates of machine cycle time.
- Calculate a cost to manufacture customer parts including labor, and tooling/work holding costs.
- Conceptually design work holding and tooling as needed to support the manufacture of customer parts.
- Demonstrate machine operation and machine features at trade shows and open house events.
- Safely rig and install machines in Technology Centers and at trade show events.
- Provide customer training on safe machine operation and detailed machine functions at the customer facility.
- Perform test cuts to demonstrate machine capability / prove processing concepts.
- Perform full- turnkey process development and testing including statistical analysis of part measurement.
- Approximately 15% of travel is required
Education/Certification:
- Associates degree or certification in a related technical field plus two years of experience in a machine tool related field, or three to five years’ experience in a related position is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred
Skills:
- Strong ability to communicate both written and orally with upper management, vendors, and customers.
- Proven ability to effectively work in a team environment with other engineers.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Mechanical ability to build fixtures, assemble tools and rig and level machines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically strong in Excel
- Experience with Mazatrol, EIA/G-Code Programming, CAD/CAM Programming software, Esprit or Mastercam, Fusion 360 or other
