Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Automation Scientist to join our team and collaborate with pre-clinical scientists. The ideal candidate will focus on automating assays using advanced liquid handling systems, interfacing with scientists and an automation engineer to streamline workflows. This role demands technical expertise, programming skills, and the ability to translate scientific processes into automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with pre-clinical scientists to automate a variety of assays, primarily in the small molecule and clinical realms.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assay automation, supporting 3–4 teams.
- Program and script automation workflows for liquid handling systems, including TECAN Fluent (preferred), Hamilton, Eppendorf, or TECAN Evo models.
- Interface with the automation engineer to design, develop, and implement automation solutions.
- Translate assay execution principles into automated workflows, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
- Conduct applied research and contribute to technology development projects.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of automation technologies and scientific principles.
- Potentially contribute to patents and scientific literature, and represent the team at conferences.
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences (minimum); Master’s degree is acceptable, though candidates with higher qualifications may be considered overqualified.
Experience:
- 1+ years of experience programming automations on liquid handlers such as TECAN, Hamilton, or Eppendorf systems.
- Strong programming skills, with familiarity in Python or C# preferred.
Skills:
- Solid understanding of assay workflows and the ability to translate scientific requirements into automation solutions.
- Strong technical aptitude for scripting proprietary liquid handler controls.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with TECAN Fluent liquid handling systems.
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art automation principles and tools.
