Senior Research Associate, Formulations

Seeking an inventive, well-organized research associate to join our Formulation Development group in San Diego, CA. As a member of Formulation Development team, this role will support to develop preformulations of small molecule chemical entities to support PK, pharmacology, and toxicology studies at our San Diego site. The candidate is expected to maintain Caco-2 cells and conduct the in vitro permeability assay to support drug candidate selection in early drug discovery. The candidate must be a strong team player with excellent communication skills working in a complex cross-functional matrix.


Experience in laboratory techniques commonly used in the analysis of preformulation such as HPLC, PXRD, TGA, DSC and cell culture experience are required.




Key Responsibilities:


Conduct material characterization (solubility, stability in bio-relevant media, permeability, physicochemical properties, form evaluations, etc) of candidate molecules

Develop solution and suspension formulation to support PK, Pharmacology and Toxicity studies

Assist on preliminary solid form screening for preclinical candidates

Maintain mammalian cells such as Caco-2, MDCK cells and generate the transwell plates and conduct in vitro permeability assay to support assessment of early drug discovery compounds

Help design, plan, execute, and interpret laboratory experiments to meet established project timelines.

Maintain laboratory equipment, keep instruments in good condition, and maintain stocks to prepare the preformulations

Maintain accurate and complete laboratory notebook capturing protocols, results and observations in real time





The successful candidate will possess:


Sound knowledge of pharmaceutical principles in the preformulation development with a range of dosage forms, including solution, suspension and IV formulations to support PK, pharmacology, and toxicology studies

Hands-on experience in analytical techniques such as HPLC methods, PXRD, TGA, DSC, and particle size analyses to enable evaluation of early-stage discovery compounds

Hands on experience in cell culture and in vitro permeability assay using Caco-2 cells

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Successful and efficient multitasking and working as part of a multidisciplinary team that works within defined timelines



Minimum Qualifications




Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical science, or related field with 3+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical field
