Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer (Plating) is responsible for developing and optimizing manufacturing processes with a focus on electroplating. This role involves improving production efficiency, ensuring quality control, and maintaining cost-effective operations. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams, provides technical support, and ensures adherence to safety and environmental standards.
 

Responsibilities:
 
  • Process Development and Optimization:
    • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes with a focus on electroplating to improve product quality and efficiency.
    • Conduct experiments and analyze data to establish optimal plating parameters and conditions.
    • Implement process improvements to reduce waste, improve yields, and enhance production rates.
  • Technical Support:
    • Provide technical support to production teams, troubleshooting and resolving manufacturing process issues.
    • Work closely with R&D to transfer new technologies from the lab to full-scale production.
    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for manufacturing processes.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to ensure products meet all specifications and standards.
    • Monitor and analyze production quality, adjusting as needed to maintain consistent product quality.
    • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for any process defects.
  • Safety and Environmental Compliance:
    • Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with safety regulations and environmental standards.
    • Develop and implement safety protocols and training programs for manufacturing operations.
    • Monitor chemical usage and disposal to minimize environmental impact and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Project Management:
    • Lead and manage process improvement projects, ensuring timely and successful completion.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and quality, to achieve project goals.
    • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate project status and results.
  • Operational Responsibilities:
    • Develop and implement laboratory protocols and procedures related to manufacturing processes.
    • Train operators on proper safety and environmental concerns related to manufacturing.
    • Lead and direct manufacturing department personnel.
    • Maintain schedules and processes for manufacturing operations.
    • Enforce safety and environmental regulations affecting the department.
    • Supervise the maintenance and replacement of all manufacturing solutions and equipment in the department.
    • Oversee production processes and ensure they meet quality standards.
    • Keep accurate and organized production records.
    • Troubleshoot manufacturing problems.
  • Creation of Work Plans and Manufacturing Appointments:
    • Define raw materials (dimensions, type, semi-finished product, or cast part).
    • Create master data of the raw material in SAP.
    • Create production BOMs and make-or-buy decisions on drafted materials.
    • Clarify suitable suppliers and suggest technology-related innovations.
    • Specify required clamping and assembly devices and forward information to the designer.
  • Change Management:
    • Create and process change requests and Q-Notes.
    • Complete change requests with maintenance of the index and status of routings and master data (this procedure is also part of the device qualification).
    • Maintain basic data with current values and data (current response times of the operations).
  • Participation in Improvement Projects:
    • Actively participate in improvement, manufacturing cost, and rationalization projects within the department and externally.
    • Initiate and bring projects to a conclusion under target and deadlines.
  • Communication and Advising:
    • Advise the design team on the choice of material and manufacturing technology, considering technical and business contexts (goal: cost reduction and standardization).
    • Advise strategic and operative purchasing on expected manufacturing costs and possible manufacturing processes.
    • Advise suppliers about manufacturing processes and assist with technical documentation problems and questions.
 
Qualifications and Skills:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing processes, preferably with a focus on electroplating.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical properties, plating solutions, and materials science.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service focus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Positive leadership skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in managing manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with manufacturing laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of process approach, risk management, continuous improvement, and ISO 9001 quality management system (preferred).
  • Prior SAP experience preferred, but not required.
