Position Summary
The Private Client Department is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our law firm as Tax Manager for our Trust Operations team.The Tax Manager will work closely with firm attorneys and other personnel within the Private Client Department, providing high-level advice on fiduciary income tax issues. This will to some extent be a "player-coach" role, where the Tax Manager will prepare some more complicated returns. This is also a timekeeping role, where the Tax Manager will track time and apply it to client matters.
The Tax Manager will have access to sensitive client information and therefore must demonstrate good judgment and discretion at all times. The Tax Manager will manage complex, detailed tax return work, and must be unintimidated by deadlines.
Responsibilities
Loyalty to Firm Attorney-Trustees
- Collaborate with and support trustees throughout the tax return preparation process.
- Ensure trustees are kept informed and consulted on fiduciary tax matters as appropriate and provide advice as needed.
Leadership and Team Management
- Â Provide supervision, guidance and support to tax professionals.
- Â Foster a collaborative and productive culture within the team.
- Â Facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.
Tax Compliance
- Oversee the accurate preparation and filing of federal and state fiduciary income tax returns using OneSource ProSystem fx fiduciary tax software.
- Interface with outside accounting firm preparing fiduciary returns for trusts administered internally on SEI platform and externally. Assure smooth flow of information.
- Demonstrate an applied knowledge of applicable federal and state tax laws.
- Keep the team updated on changes in tax laws and implement necessary process adjustments accordingly.
Client Interaction
- Represent the firm professionally on fiduciary tax-related matters, working directly with trustees and beneficiaries as appropriate.
- Provide excellent client service; address internal and external clients promptly and accurately.
Process Improvement
- Continuously seek ways to improve tax preparation processes to increase efficiency and accuracy; implement new technology to streamline workflows.
- Coordinate ongoing transition to outside tax preparation
- Work with other firm personnel to implement training and development plans.
Quality Assurance
- Review tax returns for accuracy.
- Maintain high standards of quality control within the department.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
- Minimum of five years of experience in fiduciary tax preparation.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong working knowledge of OneSource and ProSystem fx fiduciary tax preparation software and Form 1041.
- Strong working knowledge of SEI platform.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
