Position Overview

We are seeking a senior technical leader to drive the development, prototyping, and delivery of complex electronics systems across a diverse portfolio of advanced technology programs.

This role sits at the intersection of hands-on engineering, program execution, and organizational leadership. The successful candidate will lead teams responsible for designing, building, integrating, and delivering custom electronics systems from early-stage concept development through prototyping, testing, low-rate production, and transition to external partners or end users.

This is not a purely research-focused role. The ideal candidate brings a balanced background spanning R&D, prototyping, and system realization, with a demonstrated ability to translate technical concepts into functional, fieldable systems.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the strategy and execution of complex electronics system development across multiple programs and technical areas.

  • Provide expert guidance on electronics architecture, design, integration, and test.

  • Actively participate in design reviews, technical trade studies, and system-level decision-making.

  • Drive adoption of best practices across hardware development, prototyping, integration, and test.

  • Help shape future investments in electronics development infrastructure, tools, and laboratory capabilities.

  • Contribute to the development of new capabilities, including standing up and modernizing laboratory environments.

Program Leadership & Execution

  • Lead and support programs across the full lifecycle, including concept development, design, prototyping, integration, test, delivery, operation, and transition.

  • Serve as a senior technical lead, deputy program manager, chief engineer, or technical oversight authority on complex efforts.

  • Guide technical direction, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and execution strategy.

  • Support proposal development, customer engagement, and program growth initiatives.

  • Provide technical and programmatic oversight for high-visibility, mission-critical efforts.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a diverse technical workforce, including engineers, researchers, and technical specialists.

  • Oversee a technical organization or major functional area within a broader engineering environment.

  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on technical excellence, accountability, collaboration, and delivery.

  • Mentor staff, support career development, and build future technical leaders.

  • Participate in recruiting, hiring, workforce planning, and organizational development.

Prototyping, Production & Operations Integration

  • Lead efforts that bridge research, prototyping, and system delivery.

  • Ensure teams are designing, building, testing, and delivering hardware-based systems.

  • Guide the transition of systems from concept to functional prototypes and operationally relevant solutions.

  • Maintain engagement with laboratory environments, integration activities, and test efforts.

  • Support low-rate, high-value system development rather than high-volume commercial manufacturing.

Supply Chain & Technical Decision-Making

  • Provide guidance on make-versus-buy decisions for complex electronics systems.

  • Advise on and oversee major procurements and vendor engagements.

  • Leverage knowledge of the electronics supply chain to support efficient and effective prototyping.

  • Support teams in vendor selection, component sourcing, technical evaluation, and external partnerships.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.

  • Significant experience in electronics hardware development, including design, integration, and test of complex systems.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering systems across the full lifecycle, from concept through prototyping, testing, and production or transition.

  • Proven leadership experience managing technical teams, projects, programs, or organizational segments.

  • Experience working in environments requiring high-reliability or mission-critical systems, such as aerospace, defense, space, advanced research, or complex engineered systems.

  • Strong ability to lead technical teams while remaining engaged in hands-on engineering and technical decision-making.

  • Experience supporting technical strategy, program execution, staffing plans, budgets, schedules, and customer or stakeholder engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with space-based, flight, aerospace, or other high-reliability hardware systems.

  • Background in complex prototyping environments involving custom-built electronics.

  • Experience operating as a Chief Engineer, Deputy Program Manager, Senior Technical Lead, Engineering Director, or equivalent leadership role.

  • Familiarity with electronics supply chains, vendors, procurement processes, and make-versus-buy decisions.

  • Experience supporting laboratory development, infrastructure build-out, or modernization efforts.

  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, systems, software, firmware, integration, and test engineering.
