About the Role

The team develops and deploys advanced autonomous and robotic systems for real-world applications. This work combines research in algorithms, controls, and machine learning with hands-on system development and testing. Projects span the full lifecycle—from concept and prototyping to integration, testing, and operational deployment.

Position Overview

We are seeking an autonomy-focused Lab Manager to coordinate daily operations of an Autonomous Systems Development Facility. This role supports engineering teams in building and testing robotic system prototypes across both indoor and outdoor environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support hands-on development of robotic systems, including maintaining, configuring, and upgrading a fleet of autonomous platforms
  • Plan, design, and execute experiments, including safety oversight, data collection, and analysis
  • Develop test fixtures, instrumentation, software tools, and electronic components to support experimentation
  • Operate unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in controlled indoor and outdoor environments (FAA Part 107 required)
  • Lead facility tours and demonstrations to showcase technical capabilities
  • Maintain overall facility operations, including infrastructure, safety compliance, and future capability planning
  • Support field testing operations, including transport and setup of equipment

Qualifications

Minimum

  • 5+ years of experience in a research or applied engineering lab environment
  • Experience planning and overseeing UAV/UAS flight testing
  • Strong familiarity with autonomous systems (ground, aerial, or maritime) and their operation in lab/field settings
  • Active FAA Part 107 license
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in robotics, engineering, computer science, or related field
  • Experience working with end-users in applied environments
  • Proficiency with Linux and programming (C/C++, Python, ROS)
  • Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Excel) and version control (e.g., Git)
  • Familiarity with robotics tools (e.g., QGroundControl, Gazebo)
  • Experience with prototyping tools such as 3D printing
