Department Overview

The engineering team develops advanced communications and networking technologies for next-generation wireless, optical, and high-performance communication systems. The team leverages technical analysis, modeling, simulation, emulation, prototype development, and system testing to design, evaluate, and optimize communications solutions in complex operating environments.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Digital Design Engineer to develop and implement VHDL-based solutions for advanced communications systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, verification, integration, and optimization of FPGA-based architectures supporting high-performance digital signal processing and communication applications.

This role requires a strong background in digital design, FPGA development, and system integration, as well as the ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience in digital design and FPGA development.
  • 7+ years of experience working within structured, team-based FPGA development environments.
  • 7+ years of experience with:
    • VHDL code development
    • Simulation and verification
    • FPGA synthesis and implementation
    • High-speed timing closure
    • Hardware-based acceleration techniques
  • 7+ years of experience creating and maintaining accurate technical design documentation and design files.
  • 7+ years of experience designing and implementing complex, high-speed HDL-based algorithms.
  • 7+ years of experience performing digital design calculations and supporting product development efforts.
  • 7+ years of experience using Xilinx FPGA technologies, including UltraScale+ devices.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with Xilinx Versal FPGA architectures.
  • 7+ years of experience using Xilinx Vivado development tools.
  • 7+ years of experience working in UNIX/Linux-based environments, including shell scripting.
  • Strong experience with ModelSim and/or Questa, laboratory test equipment, network test equipment, and source code management tools.
  • Experience developing implementation architectures from requirements documents and high-level system specifications.
  • Experience integrating, troubleshooting, and supporting digital designs within larger system architectures.
  • Experience maintaining and utilizing legacy IP and build environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with DDR4 memory architectures and interfaces.
  • Experience with terrestrial networking standards and protocols.
  • Experience implementing digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms in FPGA-based systems.
  • Experience designing, integrating, and debugging complex circuit boards.
  • Working knowledge of MATLAB, Perl, TCL, Python, SystemC, and SystemVerilog.
  • Experience supporting high-speed communication, networking, optical communications, or signal processing systems.

Additional Information

  • This position is primarily onsite; candidates should expect to work onsite a minimum of four days per week.
  • Interim clearance or equivalent background screening may be sufficient to begin employment, if applicable.
  • The interview process typically includes an initial virtual interview followed by a second-round interview. Local candidates may be asked to attend the second interview onsite, while remote or relocation candidates may be accommodated virtually.
