The Mechanical Draftsman is a CAD and drawing specialist within the Mechanical Engineering team, responsible for producing accurate, manufacturable CAD models and drawings in support of medical device development programs.
The Mechanical Draftsman is a subject-matter expert in CAD data quality, drawings, GD&T application, and tolerance analysis. The role of reporting to the Manager, Mechanical Engineering, focuses on transforming defined mechanical designs into clean, controlled, and client-ready documentation.
The Mechanical Draftsman works primarily in later development phases (Phase 2 through Phase 5), supporting prototype builds, vendor engagement, and design transfer through high-quality technical documentation.

What You’ll Do:
- Generate and refine 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for mechanical parts and assemblies
- Convert, refactor, and clean up client- or vendor-provided CAD files
- Prepare CAD data for controlled storage and release in ePDM systems
- Apply appropriate dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T based on functional and manufacturing requirements
- Perform part-level and assembly-level tolerance stack-ups with engineering oversight
- Support vendor quoting, prototype builds, first article inspections (FAIs), and manufacturing reviews
- Participate in drawing reviews, ECO updates, and configuration changes
- Collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineers, Quality, and external vendors
- Support urgent or short-turn CAD and drawing needs as required
- Contribute to drafting standards, CAD best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree or certificate in drafting, CAD, manufacturing technology, or a related discipline
- Professional experience producing production-ready CAD models and mechanical drawings
- Working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up principles
- Experience supporting manufacturing partners and vendor interaction
- Proficiency with professional CAD software and drawing control processes
- Ability to work on defined architecture and execute efficiently within established designs
- Position is office-based or hybrid, with the ability to work in alignment with assigned location
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, architecture, or a related
- technical field
- Experience in medical device or regulated product development environments
- Familiarity with ePDM/PLM systems and document control
- Experience supporting FAIs and inspection readiness
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy and standards
