Job Summary:
As a key member of our Research and Development team, the Research and Development Engineer – Electrical will design, develop, and bring to market innovative electronic systems for our products. This role blends creative product design with deep electrical engineering expertise, encompassing concept development, schematic design, programming, prototyping, and rigorous testing. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who can take products from concept to production, ensuring performance, safety, and manufacturability.



Main Responsibilities:
  • Product Design and Development - Develop electronic architecture and circuits for new products, including schematic design, component selection, programming, prototyping, and debugging. Create and revise electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation using CAD and simulation software. Integrate electronics into product designs in collaboration with mechanical and manufacturing engineers.
  • Testing and Validation - Program, revise, and/or develop automated test equipment to support custom test procedures for industrial products. Conduct thorough design validation, system testing, and safety compliance checks. Analyze test results, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Work closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth product launches and ongoing product support. Provide training and technical guidance to internal teams with new designs and equipment.
  • Compliance and Continuous Improvement - Ensure designs meet applicable industry codes, regulations, and company safety standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, UL). Contribute to lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Troubleshooting and Optimization - Troubleshoot electronics issues, including mixed-signal microprocessor-based controls. Optimize designs for reliability, manufacturability, cost, and energy efficiency. Support post-deployment troubleshooting and product improvements.
  • Project and Documentation Alignment - Ensure engineering activities align with overall project timelines, cost targets, and business objectives. Maintain comprehensive records of designs, test procedures and results, system configurations, and technical specifications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proven experience in electronic product development, including taking products through the full life cycle from concept to deployment and support.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to solve complex design challenges independently.
  • Strong skills in analog/digital circuit design, microprocessors, and embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., Altium Designer, AutoCAD Electrical) and simulation software (e.g., SPICE).
  • Hands-on prototyping, testing, and debugging skills.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as I2C, CAN bus, SPI, USB.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Highly detail-oriented, with a continuous improvement mindset and a passion for innovation in practical, real-world applications.

Education, Experience & Special Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design, product development, or related engineering roles.
  • Experience with sensors, instrumentation, and controls preferred.
  • Proven success in delivering reliable electrical solutions
  • Familiarity with UL standards and industrial product safety testing.
  • Possible overnight travel 1-4 times per year.
