Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Automation Application Specialist to support laboratory automation operations at a leading pharmaceutical research facility in Collegeville, PA.
This role is ideal for a hands-on automation professional with strong assay development and cell culture experience. The selected candidate will provide on-site technical expertise, support automated platforms, and help advance laboratory operations through the execution of high-quality, medium- to high-throughput experiments.
- Execute medium- to high-throughput cell-based screens and biochemical assays using integrated automation platforms
- Collaborate with therapeutic and functional area scientists to support research initiatives
- Program and optimize automated platforms for assay protocol development
- Serve as the first responder for troubleshooting, error recovery, and system performance issues
- Train end users on automation platforms and best practices to prevent run failures
- Maintain cell lines and primary cell cultures
- Support equipment maintenance and coordinate with OEM service providers
- Partner with engineering teams to minimize instrument downtime
- Manage laboratory inventory and ensure adherence to safety and compliance standards
- Adapt to changing priorities and project timelines
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field with at least 2 years of laboratory automation or instrumentation support experience
OR - Associate degree with 5+ years of laboratory automation or instrumentation support experience
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on relevant experience
- Tecan Fluent programming experience (required)
- Experience with automation and laboratory equipment such as:
Tecan Fluent, Combi, BlueWasher, Cytomat, Liconic, WDII, PlateLoc, Xpeel, Cytation, Pherastar, Vspin, Echo - Strong proficiency in cellular and biochemical assay techniques (luminescence, fluorescence, AlphaScreen, imaging, etc.)
- Experience with immortalized and/or primary cell culture
- Knowledge of device networking and communications protocols
- Scripting and advanced programming experience
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, team-based environment
